bhagavad gita book club
Starting April 8th, the four-week Spiritual Book Club begins the study and discussion of The Bhagavad Gita as translated by Eknath Easwaran. All sessions are led by Jenna Lee Leahy.
How do we attain peace amidst life's challenges? What is yoga and how does it help us show up in life? What is our purpose and the meaning of life?
The story of the Bhagavad Gita is the heart of these questions and can be studied to shape a lifetime.
Every Saturday for four weeks, we will come together as a group to discuss the assigned chapter readings of the Bhagavad Gita. This book club is for any yoga enthusiast who is seeking a deeper understanding of yoga philosophy and its practice. The Gita provides new meaning and insights to its readers by illuminating the art of equanimity despite adversity which often shakes us from our center. We will explore the text together and find our own ways to relate to its insights.
By calming our minds through the practices of yoga and meditation, we begin to understand the interconnectedness that interweaves all things. Given this realization, our actions are transformed from being purely self-motivated to selfless service. Our perception shifts from the small ego self to understanding our purpose and embracing the world with compassion.
Please come prepared on April 8th having read Chapters 1-3 of the Eknath Easwaran translation of The Bhagavad Gita. Pick out the verses that really stuck out for you and any insights that arose from the text. To prepare for each weekly meeting, we will read a few chapters in advance on our own time and then discuss our experience as a group the day of. Everyone is free to contribute to the discussion as they wish. Do not be discouraged by the challenge of reading an ancient text as we will come together to discuss its timeless wisdom, ask questions and be open-minded to other perspectives.
